Questions to ask before signing up with an NDIS provider

The checklist of questions every participant should ask before committing to a provider.

Practical Tips 20 October 2025 · Acme Support Services

After 15 years of working with NDIS participants across South East Queensland, we have seen what works and what does not. These are the practical lessons that do not appear in the official guides.

The practical version

The checklist of questions every participant should ask before committing to a provider. Most participants learn these things through trial and error. If we can save you some of that time, here is what we would tell you.

What actually helps

Use your funding. This is the most common mistake we see. Participants hold back because they are worried about running out or unsure what they can spend on, then end up with money left over at the end of the plan period. Underspending can actually lead to reduced funding in your next plan because the NDIA sees you did not use what you had.

Communicate with your provider. If something is not working, say so early. Do not wait until you are frustrated to the point of wanting to switch providers. Most issues can be fixed if the provider knows about them.

Keep records. Particularly around plan reviews. Document what is working, what is not, and what you need more of. Evidence from your daily experience is powerful in plan review meetings.
