Funding your community access support
Community access is funded through Core Supports under Assistance with Social and Community Participation. If transport is needed, this can sometimes be included in the support worker's time or funded separately, depending on your plan.
Building toward real independence
For some participants, community access is also about building the confidence to eventually do things independently, catching a bus alone, ordering at a cafe, joining a class without a support worker present the whole time. We can structure outings to gradually build toward that, stepping back as confidence grows rather than assuming independence should happen all at once.
This works best when it is paced to the individual. Some participants get there in months, others take longer, and both are completely fine.
