Someone there through the night
Some participants need help during the night. Toileting, repositioning, medication, health monitoring, or just knowing someone is there if something happens. We provide both active overnight support (worker is awake and available throughout the night) and sleepover support (worker is present and available to respond but is not providing continuous active care).
Both options are delivered by qualified workers who know your care plan and your preferences. We assign consistent workers to overnight shifts because being woken up by a stranger is not a good experience for anyone.
Who needs overnight support
Participants who need toileting assistance during the night. Those who require regular repositioning for pressure care. People on overnight medication schedules. Participants with epilepsy or other conditions requiring overnight monitoring. People who experience behaviours of concern overnight. Anyone who feels unsafe or anxious being alone at night.
Active overnight vs sleepover
Active overnight support
The support worker is awake and providing continuous support throughout the night. This is appropriate for participants with high or complex overnight needs including regular personal care, health monitoring, or behavioural support.
Sleepover support
The support worker sleeps at your home and is available to respond to needs as they arise. This is appropriate for participants who need the reassurance of someone being present but do not require continuous active support overnight.
How it is funded
Under Core Supports, Assistance with Daily Life. Different funding rates for active overnight and sleepover shifts. Your support coordinator can help determine which is appropriate and ensure adequate funding is in your plan.
